Elene Usdin, artiste française, photographe, peintre et illustratrice, vit entre Paris et Bruxelles.
Diplômée des Arts Décoratifs de Paris (graphisme et image animée) en 1998, elle débute comme peintre pour le cinéma (Pola X de Léos Carax), et illustratrice de presse et de livres jeunesse (Télérama, Le Seuil, Actes Sud…).
Lauréate du Prix Picto de la photographie de mode en 2006, elle publie une monographie de ses photos en 2013 aux éditions Contrejour.
Cette multidisciplinarité se traduit par une grande liberté et une forte inventivité dans son dessin. Elle séjourne régulièrement en Amérique du Nord.
En témoignent ses portraits de Détroit publiés chez Wayne State University Press en 2020, et « René.e aux bois dormants » s’inspirant de la rafle des années 1960 dont ont été victimes les Native Americans du Canada. Publié aux éditions Sarbacane, ce premier roman graphique a reçu le grand prix de la critique ACBD 2022, le prix de la révélation graphique Artémisia 2022, et fait partie des nominés pour le prix des libraires du Québec.

Zij is in 1998 afgestudeerd aan de Arts Décoratifs de Paris (grafische vormgeving en animatie) en is haar carrière begonnen als schilderes voor de bioscoop (Pola X van Léos Carax), en als illustratrice voor de pers en kinderboeken (Télérama, Le Seuil, Actes Sud…).
Ze won in 2006 de Picto-prijs voor modefotografie en publiceerde in 2013 een monografie van haar foto’s bij Contrejour.
Deze multidisciplinariteit vertaalt zich in een grote vrijheid en inventiviteit in haar tekenwerk. Ze reist regelmatig naar Noord-Amerika.
Haar portretten van Detroit, gepubliceerd door Wayne State University Press in 2020, en « René.e aux bois dormants », geïnspireerd door de razzia van inheemse Amerikanen in Canada in de jaren 1960, zijn daar voorbeelden van. Deze eerste graphic novel, uitgegeven door Sarbacane, ontving de ACBD 2022 Grand Prix de la critique, de Artémisia 2022 Graphic Revelation Award, en werd genomineerd voor de Prix des libraires du Québec.

Le Musée Art & Histoire s’associe au Festival Picture ! afin de faire découvrir un art récent encore largement méconnu : celui de la gravure et de l’estampe inuites. L’exposition présente une vingtaine d’estampes et quelques sculptures issues de la collection du poète belge Carl Norac. Ces œuvres, réalisées par 19 artistes (principalement des femmes) utilisant diverses techniques de gravure, illustrent des thèmes tels le monde marin arctique, le chamanisme ou encore la mythologie.
Dans le cadre de l’exposition « Inuit. Voyage graphique au Grand Nord » présentée au musée Art & Histoire, les autrices Elene Usdin et Aurélie Wilmet amènent leurs impressions canadiennes en cases débridées par la couleur.
La première a publié « René·e aux Bois dormants » en 2021, qui évoque les rafles d’enfants amérindiens dans les années 1960. La seconde rentre d’un séjour de trois mois à Québec, dont elle s’inspire pour une prochaine bande dessinée à paraître chez Super Loto Éditions. Rencontre, ateliers pour enfants et performance dans le cadre de Picture Festival.
Het Art & History Museum slaat de handen ineen met het Picture! Festival om bezoekers kennis te laten maken met een recente kunstvorm die nog grotendeels onbekend is: Inuit prentkunst. De tentoonstelling presenteert een twintigtal prenten en enkele beeldhouwwerken uit de verzameling van de Belgische dichter Carl Norac. Deze werken, van 19 kunstenaars (voornamelijk vrouwen) die verschillende druktechnieken gebruiken, illustreren thema’s zoals de Arctische onderwaterwereld, sjamanisme en mythologie.
Als onderdeel van de tentoonstelling « Inuit. Het Hoge Noorden op papier« , gepresenteerd in het Museum voor Kunst en Geschiedenis, brengen de auteurs Elene Usdin en Aurélie Wilmet hun Canadese indrukken in kleurloze dozen.
De eerste publiceerde « René-e aux Bois dormants » in 2021, dat de opsluiting van Amerindiaanse kinderen in de jaren 1960 oproept. De tweede is net terug van een verblijf van drie maanden in Quebec City, waar zij inspiratie opdeed voor een komend stripverhaal dat zal worden uitgegeven door Super Loto Éditions. Ontmoeting, workshops voor kinderen en optreden in het kader van het Picture Festival.
The Art & History Museum is joining forces with the Picture! Festival to introduce visitors to a recent art form that is still largely unknown: Inuit printmaking. The exhibition presents about twenty prints and some sculptures from the collection of the Belgian poet Carl Norac. These works, by 19 artists (mainly women) using various printmaking techniques, illustrate themes such as the Arctic marine world, shamanism and mythology.

Les deux artistes qui exposent au Musée Art & Histoire aux côtés des pochoirs et gravures inuit issus de la collection de Carl Norac, vont déployer leur fantaisie à quatre mains autour d’un conte traditionnel, La mère des animaux marins. L’occasion de voir une création naître sous nos yeux, à base de huit couleurs de gouache.

De twee kunstenaars, die in het Kunst- en Geschiedenismuseum exposeren naast Inuit-stencils en gravures uit de collectie van Carl Norac, zullen hun fantasie met vier handen uitwerken rond een traditioneel verhaal, De moeder van de zeedieren. De gelegenheid om een creatie voor onze ogen geboren te zien worden, gebaseerd op acht kleuren gouache.
