Le fonctionnement permanent d’ABC est hébergé depuis 2008 dans une blanchisserie industrielle rénovée de 1600 m2 répartis sur deux étages, tout près de la gare de Nord à Bruxelles.
La maison ABC est un centre de recherche ouvert et dynamique autour de l’art, de la culture et de l’éducation, accessible pour les gens de tous les âges. Groupes scolaires, familles, enseignants en formation, animateurs d’ateliers pour jeunes, collaborateurs de musées/bibliothèques… tous ceux qui sont concernés par l’éducation à la culture et la médiation culturelle sont les bienvenus !
La maison est conçue comme un laboratoire interactif et artistique pour le jeu, le travail, la recherche, la découverte et l’expression. On y trouve notamment divers ateliers (un atelier textile, un atelier bois, un atelier papier et un atelier livre), un auditoire-cinéma, un café-crèche, un studio architecture, une cuisine à la mesure des enfants, un espace de jeu extérieur et un potager.
Depuis avril 2016 la maison a une nouvelle extension dans laquelle une classe-labo et un espace pour le mouvement/calme/méditation sont intégrés.
L’aménagement intérieur, avec du mobilier entièrement conçu par nos soins, dégage un minimalisme apaisant, un choix conscient pour d’une part ne pas sur-stimuler le visiteur, et d’autre part le sensibiliser à une sensation esthétique. En même temps, les meubles en bois modulables sont disposés et organisés afin d’inviter à la découverte autonome.
De permanente werking van ABC vindt sinds 2008 onderdak in een gerenoveerde industriële wasserij van 1600m2 over twee verdiepingen, vlakbij het Noordstation in Brussel.
Het ABC-huis is een open en dynamisch onderzoekscentrum rond kunst, cultuur en educatie, toegankelijk voor mensen van alle leeftijden. Schoolklasjes, families, leerkrachten in opleiding, begeleiders van jeugdateliers, medewerkers van musea/bibliotheken…iedereen begaan met kunsteducatie en cultuurbemiddeling is van harte welkom!
Het huis is opgevat als een interactief en artistiek labo voor spel, werk, onderzoek, ontdekking en expressie. Je vindt er onder meer diverse ateliers (een textiel-, een hout-, een papier- & boekatelier), een cinema-auditorium, een crèche-café, een architectuur-studio, een keuken op kindermaat, buitenspeelruimtes en een moestuin.
Sinds april 2016 heeft het huis ook een extra vleugel waarin een labo-klas en een stilte-ruimte voor meditatie en lichaamsbewustzijn zijn geïntegreerd.
De inrichting met het volledig zelf ontworpen meubilair straalt een rustgevend minimalisme uit, een bewuste keuze om de bezoeker enerzijds niet te overprikkelen, en anderzijds te sensibiliseren tot een esthetisch gevoel. Tegelijk zijn de modulaire houten meubels zo opgesteld en ingericht dat ze uitnodigen tot zelfstandig ontdekken.
Since 2008, the continuous operation of ABC has been housed in a 1600m2 renovated industrial laundry on two levels near the North Station in Brussels. The ABC-house is an open and dynamic research centre focused on arts, culture and education, accessible to people of all ages. School classes, families, teachers in training, supervisors of youth workshops, collaborators of museums/libraries,… anyone committed to arts education and cultural mediation is welcome!
The house is conceived as an interactive and artistic laboratory for play, work, research, discovery and expression. It includes a variety of workshops (textile, wood, paper and book making), a film auditorium, a crèche-café, an architecture studio, a child-sized kitchen, outdoor play areas and a vegetable garden.
Since april 2016 ABC has build an extension to the existing building: it contains a laboratory-classroom and a quiet room for meditation, movement and body awareness.
The arrangement, with all furniture fully designed in-house, exudes a soothing minimalism, a deliberate choice, on one hand not to over excite and on the other hand, to make visitors sensitive to an aesthetic feeling. At the same time, the modular wooden furniture is arranged and configured so that it invites visitors to explore independently.

L’une est la papesse du pochoir, des imagiers, des abécédaires, l’autre s’essaie à toutes les techniques qui accompagnent son inspiration, ses bestiaires et paysages irisés. À quatre mains, au creux des murs de la plus belle maison dédiée aux enfants à Bruxelles, chez ABC, elles rejoignent les cimes, au gré de découpages, origamis ou mobiles, amenant les visiteur·ses à embrasser l’univers, des plus petits insectes aux cieux aériens.

De ene is de godin van de stencils, prentenboeken en alfabetboeken, terwijl de andere alle technieken uitprobeert die bij haar inspiratie, haar bestiaria en iriserende landschappen horen. Met vier handen bereiken de gasten van het mooiste huis van Brussel, gewijd aan kinderen, bij ABC, de hoogten, door middel van knipsels, origami of mobiles, waardoor de bezoekers het universum kunnen omhelzen, van de kleinste insecten tot de hemel daarboven.

One is the goddess of stencils, picture and alphabet books, while the other tries her hand at all the techniques that go with her inspiration, her bestiaries and iridescent landscapes. With four hands, guests of the most beautiful house dedicated to children in Brussels, at ABC, they reach the heights, through cut-outs, origami or mobiles, leading visitors to embrace the universe, from the smallest insects to the skies above.

Chaque saison, ABC ouvre ses portes pendant tout un week-end pour que l’on puisse découvrir la maison ABC en famille. L’occasion d’explorer cet endroit exceptionnel où l’enfant est pris au sérieux, où l’expérience est mise à sa portée de regard et de fantaisie. L’occasion aussi de découvrir l’exposition Cimes de Bernadette Gervais et Waii Waii en partenariat avec Picture Festival.
ABC opent elk seizoen een weekend lang haar deuren om met het hele gezin het ABC-huis te ontdekken. Een gelegenheid om deze uitzonderlijke plek te ontdekken waar kinderen serieus worden genomen, waar ervaring mogelijk wordt gemaakt door hun ogen en verbeelding. Het is ook een gelegenheid om de tentoonstelling Cimes van Bernadette Gervais en Waii Waii in samenwerking met Picture Festival te ontdekken.
ABC opens its doors one weekend each season for the whole family to discover the ABC house. An opportunity to explore this exceptional place where children are taken seriously, where experience is made possible through their eyes and imagination. Also a chance to discover the exhibition Cimes by Bernadette Gervais and Waii Waii in partnership with Picture Festival.

En haut des cimes, légers comme le vent, les papillons se laissent porter dans l’air frais du printemps.
Insectes, feuilles et paysages se plient et se déplient en origami : riso, photocopie, tampons, aquarelle et mains habiles pour des créations en suspension.

Family days à la maison ABC le 26 et 27 mars, 10h-17h
De ene werkt met stencils, prentenboeken en alfabetboeken, de andere maakt bestiaria en veelkleurige landschappen in verschillende technieken.
Hun vier handen samen creëren in het ABC-huis een expo met knipsels, origami-vouwsels en mobielen: hoog op de toppen, licht als de wind, vliegen de vlinders door de frisse lentelucht.
Tijdens een workshop gaan kinderen onder begeleiding van de illustratrices Bernadette Gervais en Waii Waii zelf aan de slag om hun eigen zwevende creatie te maken.
High up in the treetops, light as the wind, butterflies let themselves be carried in the fresh spring air. Insects, leaves and landscapes fold and unfold in origami: riso, photocopies, stamps, watercolours and skilful hands for suspended creations.
As part of the opening of the exhibition Cimes, all the week-end, free entrance !
